The NewMen: no kidding
... no keyboards
They say you can take the boy out of the country, you just can’t take the country out of the boy. But what if that country don’t exist no more? What if it’s just a mess of broken LPs and disconnected telephone numbers and half-forgotten white nights, that plague that boy as he kicks his way down the dusty trail, half hoping he’ll meet up with you-know-who at the next crossroads, cos it sure couldn’t get any worse...
Well that boy is us, only we’re men now: NewMen, fine, and with a load of new stories, but men all the same, with the same old mess, looking for the same old lost country. And yeah, you’ve all been there, but ain’t none of you ever been us, and you aren’t likely to be of much help anyway, so here’s what we decided to do: lift up our heads and make for the only country we can still call home, the soundtrack of our most lurid dreams and our sweetest nightmares, a mixture of Buzzcocks and Bo Diddley, Loretta Lynn and Lou Reed, Taj Mahal and Tammy Wynette, but more than anything the land where Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer are still staring the bastards down, dressed all in black and toting a bazooka, and letting that lonesome whistle blow their blues away.
Welcome to our country, punks.
